Donated Quilts for Kinglake part 3

I've been getting boxes of quilts from all over Australia this week and so far have 45 finished quilts just in this week. They will go to Kinglake in the next few weeks. While I was picking up parcels in the post office, a local quilter saw me and asked if I would call at her home as she had quilts to donate.
When I got there she gave me 7 quilts, 6 of which are at least double or queen sized. The generosity of quilters is amazing.
I also met a quilter from Stawell this afternoon and she passed on another 16 quilts from her group.
I've just been asked for 17 large quilts for CFA members who lost their home while out fighting fires and also for 210 quilts for school children and teenagers in the Kinglake area.
Keep the quilts coming please as we still need plenty more. Christina is in need of 100 for the Whittlesea area and Mary-anne is still coellcting for Easglehawk.

More Quilts for Mudgeegonga

This morning I had Jo M. call in and pick up a beautiful quilt made by Annette Schulling. Jo was absolutely delighted, especially since the nights here have turned really cold. I commented that it was necessary to wear a dressing gown in the mornings now and she said yes she had to buy one. Must be so hard when you have lost everything. She told me her children loved the quilts I have given them and her MIL thought we did a marvellous job at sewing them... Photo of Jo with her lovely quilt, made by Annette Schulling.

Also sent a quilt home with my BIL a couple of weeks ago as he was telling me one of his best mates had died in the fires and another had lost their home. BIL has sent me these photos and he wrote the following. I quote " Just a short note to let you know I passed on the quilt to Daryl and Michelle. As you can see Michelle loved it took one look and wrapped herself in it didn't want Daryl to have any of it. But gave in when I wanted a photo with him too. She showed me(BIL) some of the things that were burnt, Daryl's trombone. All that was left was 6in of the horn the flared bit. A hand full of melted jewellery, the petrol cap of her Mustang that had melted in the driveway. The stang was burnt all gone. Daryl's Morris has also gone, the mag wheels had completely melted. This was one of the early quilts I received and forgive me I didn't get the name of the maker but am sure the maker will recognise it another beautiful quilt.

Quilts to Christina

Thursday Peter and I travelled through the bushfire area and delivered two quilts to a family. Sorry I forgot my camera but here are photos of the two quilts....This family lost everything they had just moved into their home in May 2007 and were renovating it. the wife was devastated at the loss but she said it is better for Isobella ( their 4 year old daughter) to lose her belongings rather than her parents.....The only thing saved were 4 goats who sheltered in a near by dam...Two homes not 100 metres away were not touched such is the irony of a bushfire.

Thursday delivery of quilts included a box of quilts from Annie Schulling Aren't they lovely and a much needed QS quilt that will be delivered soon.

End of Week 3

I've been away at the Australasian Quilt Convention and now I'm catching up again at home. It was good timing to go to Melbourne as I stopped off on the way and took down 17 quilts for the Kinglake and Wandong areas. I drove back through the areas bordering where the fires ripped through and the burnt areas are much larger than I had imagined. The fire even jumped across a 4 lane highway and it must have been frightening for anyone near there.
I had many parcels and boxes of tops, blocks and QAYG blocks waiting for me when I arrived home and I'll post more details later.
The top two quilts were made and donated by Sharyn C. of Numurkah. She had invited me to speak about my trip to Timor to her craft group and I showed them how to make the QAYG blocks. One lady went home and made 17 that afternoon, so it looks like I've created a new passion there. The teddies were donated by Bettine L. from WA and the other top was a donated one which I quilted. They have all gone to the families in the Kinglake area as have the previous quilts on the last post.
